What is PlayOnLinux?
PlayOnLinux is a script written in bash, that uses Wine ( Wine HQ ). Wine's aim is to install and run under a Linux distribution software that is designed for Microsoft Windows. What is PlayOnLinux's aim? After using Wine we realised that it sometimes needs complex commands. PlayOnLinux helps you to soften the processn making your life even easier in the Linux world. More, some people who care about the games they own won't come to Linux simply because they want to be able to play them again. Our script will help them to move on Linux. Can I install all the games that would run under Windows ? It depends. If your game is on the list you can find there: http://www.playonlinux.com/scripts/show_repository.php, you can trust the compatibility with a Linux OS. If it's not on the list, you have to check if it runs ok with Wine (check that here: Wine AppDB - Wine Application Database). If it does run with Wine, you can use "Liveinstall" option that is available in the script. If it doesn't, you may have to wait for the game to be correctly managed.. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- How to install for Debian Based Distros: (if there's any mistake, yell me, I'm writting this from my own experience installing it in 25 boxes) First of all let's sign and add the repositories (do as root, or using sudo): Code:
wget -q http://playonlinux.botux.net/pol.gpg -O- | sudo apt-key add - (add sudo if you're not logged as root)apt-get update (add sudo if you're not logged as root)apt-get install playonlinux use the command su to change user to root, then do: Code:
apt-get install sudo then edit the /etc/sudoers file, with the text editor of your preference, I love NANO though pretty much users love VIM in this file, go to the last line, you'll see: root ALL=(ALL) ALL so after that line, add a new one, with your username and respecting the syntaxis that root uses, for example, it would end up being something like: Code:
root ALL=(ALL) ALL user ALL=(ALL) ALL Save the file, exit the editor, now your user can use SUDO! Well, that's pretty much all you need for now.. Enjoy...
