laptop to Xbox 360 bridge
OK heres the problem:
I really don't want to spend £50 on a wireless adapter for my 360 and i know you can create a bridge from a PC or laptop so i gave it a try and and it didn't seem to work. I have spent hours searching the net for information on how to do it and nothing has helped. I want to connect my vista laptop to my Xbox using direct link Ethernet. my laptop connects to the internet via a wireless router. when it is set up my laptop picks up the Xbox but the Xbox cannot connect to Xbox live/Internet. I have also tried using ICS but it comes up with an error every time i try to turn it on. I previously had a direct Ethernet connection from the wireless router but it has been removed i would run another one but its my parents house and i can't really go ripping up the floor to run a new one. Any help on this matter would be much appreciated, thanks in advance Rapitor

Rapitor, I beleave there must be a trouble on how you set it up.
In any case, what I would advice you to do right now is go your steps backwards. ICS is the easiest way to go, though I'm going to detail how would I do it (WARNING: I don't really know if the Xbox networking service allows you to set a static IP, so don't get over me because of that After all, I don't own one, yet.. )The way I see beter to do it, is this one: 1) Set the IP of your wireless adapter (if possible) to a static one (this is because of order means). 2) Set the IP of your WIRED ethernet adapter on your laptop to a different layer. IE: If the wireless ethernet interface is on the 192.168.1.0/24 network (this means that it's between 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.254, both addresses included) to a different, static one, for purpouses of order, we'll give it 192.168.2.1 in this case. 3) Go to your Xbox, and set the WIRED interface to an IP of the same range your ethernet card has been given, namely, you could give it an IP address like 192.168.2.2 to keep it ordered. 4) Check now, if you're getting an error now, it might be the same one that the system complained about with ICS, if so, please detail it. I want to avoid ICS use as much as possible, as it consumes some resources that might be spared, and it just works awfully with some things wich are not UPnP based. Till now, your scheme should look kind of like this: [INTERNET] -> [CABLEMODEM / MODEM] -> [WIRELESS ROUTER] -> [Vista based laptop through wireless] --through ethernet--> [Xbox] Now, by network means, this design should work with anything that complies to the TCP/IP standard. The next thing you should know, in case you can configure your Xbox with a static IP, is that you need to set the gateway to the wireless router ITSELF, and so the DNS. The network mask will be left to 255.255.0.0 just in case, but shouldn't be needed. Now, the next problem we MIGHT have, is that we might need to forward some port (badly called "open a port"). But we'll get to this in time. I just browsed the net, and found this that might also pose useful for setting up the static IP on the Xbox: PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall I hope this information is enough, but I'm here for anything else you might need. I also encourage you to post the solution you found the best, since there are allways multiple solutions to the same trouble.

ive tried this, it works, but very very laggy in online gaming, like call of duty mw2... dont recommened it for legit hardcore gamers... for true gaming experience get the wireless N card for 360
.tho if your still wondering how to do the above heres a video tutorial.

As a matter of facts, the ethernet card on the Xbox is kind of not good. But the user might be able to correct the lag with the use of something like cFos to shape the traffic. Windows is terrible when on high network loads, unless we talk about Server "editions".
